Our Pleasant Interview with Band Group LURE!
Our White Entertainment interview series continues with LURE, the project group formed by Hyukjin and Wonshin, two members of D.COY, who gained acclaim for their pop/rock genre songs and debuted in 2019!
We talked to the vocalist and bassist of the group Wonshin and guitarist Hyukjin about the details of their project group LURE and their new song 0917, their goals and many other subjects such as their topics of curiosity about Türkiye. All of this enjoyable interview is with you! Enjoy reading!
1. Could you please introduce yourself?
Hyukjin: Hello, it’s very nice to meet you. I’m Hyukjin.
Wonshin: Hello! I’m Wonshin in charge of vocals and bass guitar in D.COY. Now we are running this project group called LURE with another member of D.COY, Hyukjin.
2. How did you start your music career?
Hyukjin: I started playing the guitar since I loved heavy metal since middle school. I often watched the concerts of various bands. During my student years, I was a regular member of the school group. I started doing group activities in Hongdae for the first time when I was 21 years old. That’s how I started making music by forming groups.
Wonshin: I watched the concert where Coldplay sang Fix You. Since they looked so cool and sparkly… I started making music with the desire to be such a singer. As for my career, I started making music around the time I took the school entrance exam, but it doesn’t have a long history of giving really hard and sincerely wishing and working hard.
3. Can you talk a little bit about the meaning of LURE? Why is the band name LURE? What does it mean for you?
Hyukjin: LURE is a fish-shaped bait used in fishing. We, as 96-born peers in the D.COY group, wanted a team name that could connect with D.COY (bait means attracting the public). We chose this as the team name because “LURE” can indicate the meaning of attracting the public.
4. LURE is a project group. So how did this group come about? How did the idea come about?
Wonshin: We wrote a song with Hyukjin in the past. At that time, we had an opportunity to release an album. We also released the album through this project group.
5. Does 0917 mean anything? Can you explain?
Hyukjin: It means September 17. That day is also known as the day of confession. They say that if you open up to the person you love on September 17, you can celebrate your 100th day on Christmas, December 25. If there is someone you like, it may be good to open up to him on September 17.
6. Where did you get your inspiration when writing 0917?
Wonshin: We prepared it while watching the heart palpitations that appeared when they met, how they looked at the person they loved, people whose hearts were filled with love but could not approach because they were ashamed.
7. Do you intend to compose or sing different genres of songs?
Hyukjin: Certainly. There are many genres of music we want to try, such as synth-pop, grunge rock and acoustic music. Since we also love Bossa nova music, we tried to give the Bossa Nova feel while arranging the live clip of “0917”.
8. We know that Won Shin studied in the music department. When and how did you decide to study music? How do you think this training reflected on your work?
Wonshin: Before, I only made music as a hobby. As a result, I lost my focus and my perspective went elsewhere. After such a time, I thought about what I really wanted, what I could do well. I decided that I wanted to make music and that I had to do it. The music I’ve been making since then has formed who I am today.
9. Hyuk Jin was an engineering student. Do you think there is a similarity between engineering and making music?
Hyukjin: You must have done a lot of research since you know that I’m an engineering student. I studied electrical and electronic engineering, my field was telecommunications. The basis of the sound is communication, since we make a lot of use of the principles used in communication, sequencers or communication, there were many parts that helped me. I think it is a great skill to understand the principles clearly.
10. Are there any artists you want to work with? If so, who they are?
Hyukjin: Seo Taiji and The Black Skirts, they are the heroes of my childhood! And I would like to work with musicians of different genres.
Wonshin: Frankly, we talked to Hyukjin about our next song. I would like to work with SBGD’s Heeyeon once again as a feature on the next LURE album.
11. What are your goals that you want to achieve as a musician in the next 5 years?
Hyukjin: Being an artist with a full album. I want it for a very long time.
Wonshin: D.COY and LURE music styles are different from each other. D.COY and LURE, I want to show my skills and versatility in both groups.
12. If you could choose a profession now, would you choose your current profession? If you could change what profession would you choose?
Hyukjin: Whatever profession I choose, it would be music. I feel like my life cannot be explained without music. If I were to choose a profession, my childhood dream would be to become a doctor.
Wonhin: Even if I had a choice, I would still choose the same profession.
13. What were the 5 songs you listened to the most in 2022?

14. What do you do in your daily life? Can you tell us about your daily routine?
Hyukjin: Since I mostly work in the afternoon, when I wake up in the morning, I always prepare my coffee and start working. After my music work, I practice guitar. I eat my dinner and do simple sports like jogging. I go to bed with the fans chatting about how the day went.
Wonshin: I apologize for giving the same answer to this question every time. When I don’t have a job, I invest all my time in personal practice!
15. Have you ever been in Türkiye before?
Hyukjin: No ᅲᅲ But I really want to go. Türkiye is indeed a country that I have always wanted to go to.
Wonshin: I want to go again, as I have not gone again, except for the trips I made when I was a child. I want to have fun with various cultures and attractions, food, etc. Türkiye is leading the countries I want to go on vacation!
16. What do you wonder most about Türkiye?
Hyukjin: Turkish foods! Although I often eat cream and Turkish desserts in South Korea, I wonder how they taste in their homeland. I am a food lover, I have heard many times that Turkish food is quite popular.
Wonshin: I am very curious about things like how Turkish music and the music in our country differ and how genres differ in Turkish music. That’s why I want to gain various cultural experiences.
17. After this interview, there will be Turkish fans who want to get to know you. What would you like to say to them?
Hyukjin: Hey guys, our songs are beautiful. You will not regret! Just take 4 minutes and listen! Then wait for our next works! We will definitely come to give a concert in Türkiye in the near future.
